Diamond – April’s Birthstone
April is honored with Diamond as its one and only birthstone. Not only do they get to celebrate their birth in a month that allows for such beautiful weather, they also get to have their month represented by the most sought after, precious gem known to man, the diamond.
Where is the name from?
The name comes from the Greek word adámas, which means “unbreakable” or “invincible”. This is because diamonds have a unique molecular structure which makes them incredibly hard. Scientists give diamond the highest rating, 10 out of 10, on the Mohs Scale of mineral hardness. They are formed deep within the Earth and reach the surface through violent volcanic eruptions. And it is only diamonds that can shape other diamonds. Hardly surprising it got this name!
“I can’t take my eyes off you”
“You’re just too good to be true
Can’t take my eyes off you.
You’d be like heaven to touch.
I wanna hold you so much.”
Aquamarine, the birthstone for the month of March, is a stone you simply cannot take your eyes off. The seawater color of aquamarine has given this gemstone its name as the name “aquamarine” is derived from the Latin word for seawater.
